Privacy Policy - Last updated: August 2026
Coinsel (“Coinsel,” “we,” “us”) provides price intelligence tools for graded coins and currency at coinsel.io (the “Service”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.
If you are a California resident, please also see our CCPA Notice, which describes additional rights and disclosures.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. Your email address and password when you register. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. We never see or store your password in readable form. If you sign in with a third-party provider (e.g. Google), we receive your email address and basic profile identifier from that provider.
- Profile and preferences. Optional details such as a display name, collecting interests, notification settings, and units or currency preferences.
- Collection and watchlist data. Coins and notes you save, track, tag, or add to a portfolio, including grades, certification numbers, purchase prices, acquisition dates, and any notes you write. If you enter what you paid for an item, we store that figure, and on plans that include Sell Signals we also use it to calculate and keep a record of the signals we generate for that holding (see Section 2).
- Search and query history. The coins, varieties, grades, and price comparisons you look up, and any searches you save.
- Location information you provide. If you use the Local section to find dealers, shops, or shows near you, we collect the ZIP or postal code you enter and convert it to approximate coordinates. We do not collect precise GPS location from your device.
- Billing information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor collects your card details, billing address, and country. We receive only a transaction record, the last four digits of the card, card brand, and expiration date. Full card numbers never touch Coinsel’s servers.
- Communications. Messages you send to support, feedback, bug reports, and your responses to surveys or emails.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage data. Pages viewed, features used, searches run, buttons clicked, timestamps, referring page, and session duration.
- Device and connection data. IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and time zone.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 7.
Information we receive from others
- Authentication providers, if you sign in through one, as described above.
- Payment processor, which sends us subscription status, renewal dates, and payment success or failure.
We do not buy personal information from data brokers, and we do not collect sensitive categories such as government ID numbers, precise geolocation, biometric data, health data, or racial, religious, or political information.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Create and maintain your account, and authenticate you when you sign in.
- Deliver the core Service, retrieving price guide values, sold comps, and auction results for the coins you look up, and displaying them together.
- Save and sync your watchlists, portfolios, saved searches, and preferences across your sessions and devices.
- Convert a ZIP code you enter into approximate coordinates so we can show dealers and events near you.
- Process subscriptions, renewals, refunds, and billing support.
- Send transactional email, account confirmations, password resets, receipts, price alerts you asked for, and service notices.
- Send product updates or marketing email, only if you opt in. This may include offers or promotions from partners, such as grading services, dealers, or bullion sellers, that Coinsel curates and sends itself; partners do not receive your email address or other contact information through this. You can unsubscribe from these at any time using the link in any such email or your notification settings. You cannot unsubscribe from transactional email while you hold an account.
- On plans that include it, calculate Sell Signals for your holdings, comparing the cost basis and acquisition date you recorded against previously collected sold prices for the same coin and grade, and keep a record of each signal and how it later resolved so the feature can report its own track record to you. This is calculated by Coinsel from information we already hold. Your holdings and cost basis are not sent to an AI provider or any other third party to produce it.
- Monitor for fraud, abuse, scraping, credential stuffing, and violations of our Terms.
- Diagnose bugs, measure performance, and understand which features get used so we can improve them.
- Produce aggregated, de-identified statistics about market activity and Service usage. These do not identify you and are not tied back to your account.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
Legal bases (visitors in the EEA and UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: contract (to provide the Service you signed up for), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement, and aggregated analytics), consent (marketing email and non essential cookies), and legal obligation (tax, accounting, and lawful requests).
3. Service providers and third parties

Other situations where we may disclose information
- Legal requests. If required by law, subpoena, court order, or valid government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Coinsel, our users, or the public.
- Business transfer. If Coinsel is acquired, merged, or its assets sold, your information may transfer to the successor. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different policy.
- With your direction. Where you explicitly ask us to share something, such as generating a public link to a portfolio.
4. How long we keep it
- Account data. For as long as your account is open, and for 60 days after you delete it, to allow recovery from accidental deletion.
- Collection, watchlist, and portfolio data. Until you delete the individual entries or your account.
- Sell Signals history. Kept while the holding exists, so the feature can report how earlier signals resolved. Deleted when you delete the holding it belongs to, or your account. If a paid subscription lapses we block access to it rather than deleting it, so your history is intact if you resubscribe.
- Billing records. For 7 years, as required for tax and accounting purposes.
- Server and security logs. 90 days.
- Support correspondence. 2 years.
- Aggregated, de-identified data. Indefinitely, since it no longer identifies you.
Backups are purged on a rolling 30 day cycle, so deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for up to that period after removal from the live system.
5. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, hashed passwords, row level access controls on our database, scoped API credentials, and access limited to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any required regulators within the timeframes the law requires.
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. Use a unique password, and tell us immediately, by contacting us, if you suspect unauthorized access.
6. Your rights and choices
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information, directly in your account settings or by contacting us.
- Delete your account and associated data, from (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by emailing us.
- Export your watchlist and portfolio data in a portable format.
- Opt out of marketing email via the unsubscribe link or your notification settings.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, where applicable law provides that right.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these, contact us. We will respond within 45 days (extendable by another 45 days where permitted) or within 30 days for GDPR requests. We may need to verify your identity, typically by confirming control of the email on the account, before acting on a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Do Not Track. Browsers send inconsistent Do Not Track signals, and there is no common standard for honoring them, so we do not currently respond to them.
7. Cookies
We use:
- Essential cookies. To keep you signed in, remember your session, and protect against cross site request forgery. These can’t be turned off without breaking the Service.
- Preference cookies. To remember settings like display units and theme.
- Analytics cookies. to understand aggregate usage.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, but doing so will sign you out and may break parts of the Service. We use a consent banner to obtain opt-in for non-essential cookies where required by law.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 16 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International users
Coinsel is operated from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved transfer mechanism for transfers out of the EEA or UK.
10. Third-party links and data
The Service displays data and links from third party sources including eBay, auction houses, grading services, and dealer listings. Coinsel does not control those sites, and this policy does not apply to them. Prices, comps, and availability shown on Coinsel are provided for informational purposes and are not an appraisal, an offer, or investment advice.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will post the revised version here with an updated date, and if the changes are material, we will notify you by email or an in app notice at least 5 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the revised policy.
